Loire Valley and Cognac – who’d have thought it?

by

An absolutely fabulous masterclass was enjoyed at Bacco last night.  In fact it was two masterclasses in one!

We welcomed Guillemette de Couesnongle who presented a fabulous tasting of Loire wines from Langlois Chateau, a top class estate owned by Bollinger.  We tasted a comprehensive selection ranging from some outstanding Cremant de Loire through some exceptional Saumur Vieilles Vignes Blanc and finishing with some excellent Sancerre and Pouilly Fume and a nifty little Coteaux du Layon sweetie to finish.

Bacco served up a top class menu with the sausage ravioli partnering the Saumurs brilliantly; the Vieilles Vignes Saumur Champigny providing a foil to the excellent pork fillet; a perfectly poached pear was a delight with the Coteaux du Layon.

If that wasn’t enough, we then settled in to a tasting of three XO Cognacs from Delamain.  Even for non spirit drinkers this was a revelation as Delamain is a small artisanal producer crafting quite exquisite cognacs.  Ranging in age from 25 to 55 years, the Pale and Dry, Vesper and Extra were quite outstanding.

All the Loire wines are available in the Shop, contact me if you are interested in the cognacs.
