Tasting events and more for wine lovers in Richmond
Richmond Wine Society
Since 2006 Richmond Wine Society has run monthly wine tastings covering a diverse range of wines in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
We meet at the Britannia Inn, in Brewer’s Lane, in their upstairs room, and the price of the tasting includes a two course meal with wine. Most months we run two events (the same lineup of wines at each), usually on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We have a membership of over 200, and every month over 50 people attend across the two nights.
During lockdown we are running our monthly events via Zoom. On the morning of the event we deliver 5cl samples of each of the wines we are tasting to participants, so all you need is a couple of glasses to enjoy a fabulous lineup of wines.
The format of the evening is designed to be friendly and informal, but informative as well. Absolutely no knowledge of wine is required and whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster there is plenty to learn and enjoy – most of the wines we taste retail at £10-£50, and some months we sample something very rare and expensive.
Read the blog to find out about our latest tastings.
The host is Tim Syrad. Tim has over 25 years experience entertaining and informing people about wine, and is a member of the Association of Wine Educators. He also runs the Teddington and Surbiton Wine Societies, as well as fine wine Masterclasses, occasional wine courses, corporate events and wine tours. He is a fervent advocate that wine tasting should be fun, celebrating the enjoyment that wine brings, whether in discovering a new wine variety or region, or perceiving a new aroma or taste, or identifying a fascinating match between wine and food.

This iconic grape variety is grown with huge success around the world and we will find out why, exploring how a crossing of two Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc) has in just a couple of centuries become a flagship of regions as diverse as Coonawarra in South Australia, Maipo in Chile, California’s Napa Valley, Mendoza in Argentina, Stellenbosch in South Africa, Tuscany, the Languedoc and of course Bordeaux itself.
Wines will be supplied in 50ml glass bottles, providing a perfect tasting amount. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.
Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting to addresses within a radius of 5 miles around Teddington.

Not a 70s TV crime series, this is a chance to take two more iconic grape varieties, and enjoy expressions of them from their birthplace in Bordeaux, and their new homes in Australia, South Africa and Chile. If you have never tried a Hunter Valley Semillon, a real treat is in store….
