I am an independent wine merchant and educator based in Teddington.

I have a number of online tastings recorded on Youtube, so you can enjoy a fantastic range of wines at home at your convenience – France, Italy, Spain and the New World have all featured.

I run private events, and tastings for local groups (sports clubs, PTAs), and I have a corporate events business called Taste of the Grape.  Every year I take groups of people to destinations all over the world on Wine Holidays.

I won the 2019 Wanderlust World Guide Awards Specialist Tour Guide of the Year.

Commended for my infectious passion, and being the perfect link between winemakers and travellers, I was given the award at the National Geographical Society.  The judges based their decision on the feedback from the dozens of clients who have been on tour with me.

Fine Wine Tasting of wines of Henschke @ Bacco
Oct 18 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Fine Wine Tasting of wines of Henschke @ Bacco | Twickenham | United Kingdom

A truly extraordinary tasting of an iconic Australian estate – Henscke. Their Hill of Grace Shiraz is now reckoned to be Australia’s finest single vineyard Shiraz and I believe it has outperformed the legendary Penfolds Grange in recent years – earning a £500/bottle price point in the process.

The Henschke family have made wine in Eden Valley since 1868 and Stephen Henschke is the fifth generation proprietor, who alongside his viticulturalist wife Prue, have overseen a dramatic transformation of the estate.

We will taste through eight wines with an average price over £100/bottle, and enjoy a three course meal at the wonderful Bacco restaurant in Richmond.

Wines we will taste:
Louis Semillon 2017 Eden Valley
Julius Riesling 2020 Eden Valley
Croft Chardonnay 2018 Adelaide Hills
Giles Pinot Noir 2018 Lenswood
Johanns GSM blend 2017 Barossa Valley
Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2015 Eden Valley
Hill of Grace 2015 Shiraz Eden Valley

Fine wine tasting dinners are hosted by Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies.  He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.

Richmond Wine Society - Chile - A Rich Diversity @ The Britannia

Chile goes from strength to strength as a wine producing nation and continues to impress with its high quality portfolio of wines.

Owing to its extraordinary topography, the variety of climate allows cool, maritime influenced wines through to high altitude, high alcohol styles in the Andean foothills with a huge range inbetween.

Tim Atkin MW has been writing very positively about the Chilean wine scene for many years and this tasting will demonstrate the amazing diversity.

Fine Wine Tasting of Chateau Montelena @ Bacco
Nov 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Fine Wine Tasting of Chateau Montelena @ Bacco | Twickenham | United Kingdom

An extraordinary tasting that focusses on an iconic Napa valley estate – Chateau Montelena. This estate shot to fame in the 1976 Judgement of Paris when its Chardonnay defeated top white wines from Burgundy. Since then they have become one of Napa’s top estates and we have an amazing opportunity to taste five of their outstanding Estate Cabernet Sauvignons dating from 2015 to 2004.  The current retail price for the Estate Cab Sauv is £160/bottle.

Wines we are tasting include:
Potter Valley Riesling 2019
Napa Valley Chardonnay 2012
Calistoga Zinfandel 2015
Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, 2014, 2013, 2006, 2004

This is a truly unmissable opportunity to taste such a range of older vintages from this historic Napa estate.

“Throughout the 17 years I have attended Tim’s wine tasting events, he has continued to deliver his extensive knowledge of wine and wine-making with great charm, and lots of humour, making the evenings not only informative, but also great fun. In the course of an average year, the tastings cover a kaleidoscope of different wine themes – interesting and entertaining for all, novices and experts alike. And the wines taste pretty good too!”
"We have been going to Teddington Wine Society events for a number of years. Tim runs the evenings with bonhomie and humour and wears his considerable knowledge lightly. The evenings are great fun, the wines are always a little bit different and help to expand knowledge and tasting horizons.”
“I have attended the Richmond Wine society for over ten years and always enjoyed Tim’s self-effacing style and gentle humour. His knowledge is globally eclectic and presented in a clear, interesting and always stimulating way. Every guest I have taken there has enjoyed the evening immensely. Tim also offers a wide range of wines to buy and my red cellar has provided great pleasure to my own dinner guests.”
"I’ve been enjoying Tim’s tastings for over 20 years - he is a great teacher, raconteur and wine expert. He is seriously passionate about his wine, but there is nothing serious about his tastings, which are always informal and relaxed. A lovely way to spend an evening and enjoy some fantastic wines."
