Independent Wine Merchant in Teddington

Free Local Delivery

Superb Range of Wines

Food Pairing and Cheese Matching suggestion for every Wine

Get your cellar re-stocked with my fabulous mixed cases of reds and whites!

I am an independent wine merchant and educator based in Teddington.

I run local Wine Societies in Richmond, Teddington and Surbiton, and lockdown is not stopping us – tastings are being run by Zoom, with samples delivered to participants on the morning of the tasting.

I have a number of online tastings recorded on Youtube, so you can enjoy a fantastic range of wines at home at your convenience – France, Italy, Spain and the New World have all featured.

I run private events, and tastings for local groups (sports clubs, PTAs), and I have a corporate events business called Taste of the Grape.  Every year I take groups of people to destinations all over the world on Wine Holidays.

Find out more about what I do.

Try my online tastings

Our latest online tasting is of classic wines from the New World.  You can enjoy all of the tastings I have run since April, watching the recording on YouTube, and buying the wines – most available in half bottles.

My fabulous range of wines and online tastings can deliver a wine event in the comfort of your home.

Please take a look at my online tastings and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like any advice about wine, suggestions for food and cheese pairing (I know the Teddington Cheese range intimately) or would like to find out more about anything I do.

To stay informed about what I do please sign up to receive updates.

I won the 2019 Wanderlust World Guide Awards Specialist Tour Guide of the Year.

Commended for my infectious passion, and being the perfect link between winemakers and travellers, I was given the award at the National Geographical Society.  The judges based their decision on the feedback from the dozens of clients who have been on tour with me.

Fine Wine Tasting – Chateau Musar 10 years on @ By Zoom
Mar 22 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Fine Wine Tasting - Chateau Musar 10 years on @ By Zoom | England | United Kingdom

Our last tasting of Musar wines was in February 2010, and it’s safe to assume a lot has happened since then. The Hochar family have made wine under conditions of incredible adversity since 1930, in the Bekaa Valley where gravelly soil, altitude, and mountain shelter provide almost perfect conditions for the old Cabernet Sauvignon Cinsault and Carignan vines.

We will taste a range of vintages, comparing flagship Musar to the more forward Hochar Père et Fils second wines, and getting to know the distinctive white, made from indigenous varieties.
I will provide recipe and cheese pairing recommendations, and suggest some suitable ready meals from quality supermarkets that would complement the wines well.

Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting.  Because of the high value of the wines we are tasting I am limiting numbers, and may need to make a small charge for postage to addresses it is not practical to deliver to.

Tim Syrad has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies.  He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.

New Zealand Masters at Teddington Wine Society @ by Zoom

In our March tasting by Zoom we are focusing on two of the very best winemakers in New Zealand – Kevin Judd of Greywacke, and Warren Gibson of Trinity Hill.

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc has just been judged one of the top four from NZ in the April edition of Decanter.  We will also enjoy opulent Pinot Gris and vibrant Riesling demonstrating that Marlborough is far from a one trick Sauvignon Blanc pony.

Warren Gibson has made wine for Trinity Hill in Hawkes Bay since 1997. His top red is the £80.00 Homage Syrah, drinking brilliantly especially with a bit of decanting, while ‘The Trinity’ is a Merlot-dominant blend that is supplemented by Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah from various vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels.
Both estates produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of the highest standard, so we are in for a night of fabulous wines.
Wines will be supplied in 50ml glass bottles, providing a perfect tasting amount. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.
Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting to addresses within a radius of 5 miles around Teddington.

Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, runs Teddington Wine Society, which meets (generally) on the last Friday of the month.  Tim is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.  Tim also runs the monthly Richmond Wine Society and hosts fine wine tastings and dinners in local restaurants.

“Throughout the 17 years I have attended Tim’s wine tasting events, he has continued to deliver his extensive knowledge of wine and wine-making with great charm, and lots of humour, making the evenings not only informative, but also great fun. In the course of an average year, the tastings cover a kaleidoscope of different wine themes – interesting and entertaining for all, novices and experts alike. And the wines taste pretty good too!”
"We have been going to Teddington Wine Society events for a number of years. Tim runs the evenings with bonhomie and humour and wears his considerable knowledge lightly. The evenings are great fun, the wines are always a little bit different and help to expand knowledge and tasting horizons.”
“I have attended the Richmond Wine society for over ten years and always enjoyed Tim’s self-effacing style and gentle humour. His knowledge is globally eclectic and presented in a clear, interesting and always stimulating way. Every guest I have taken there has enjoyed the evening immensely. Tim also offers a wide range of wines to buy and my red cellar has provided great pleasure to my own dinner guests.”
"I’ve been enjoying Tim’s tastings for over 20 years - he is a great teacher, raconteur and wine expert. He is seriously passionate about his wine, but there is nothing serious about his tastings, which are always informal and relaxed. A lovely way to spend an evening and enjoy some fantastic wines."
