I am an independent wine merchant and educator based in Teddington.

I run local Wine Societies in Richmond, Teddington and Surbiton, and lockdown is not stopping us – tastings are being run by Zoom, with samples delivered to participants on the morning of the tasting.

I have a number of online tastings recorded on Youtube, so you can enjoy a fantastic range of wines at home at your convenience – France, Italy, Spain and the New World have all featured.

I run private events, and tastings for local groups (sports clubs, PTAs), and I have a corporate events business called Taste of the Grape.  Every year I take groups of people to destinations all over the world on Wine Holidays.

I won the 2019 Wanderlust World Guide Awards Specialist Tour Guide of the Year.

Commended for my infectious passion, and being the perfect link between winemakers and travellers, I was given the award at the National Geographical Society.  The judges based their decision on the feedback from the dozens of clients who have been on tour with me.

Teddington Wine Society - Wines from the Mediterranean Islands @ St Mary's Parish Hall

To inspire our holiday dreams, we will explore some of the lovely wines grown on islands in the Mediterranean. We are holding an ‘in person’ event at St Mary’s Parish Hall on the night of Saturday 22nd May, and a Zoom tasting with the same wine samples delivered to people’s homes on Sunday 23rd May.

This is the first time we have focussed a tasting on Mediterranean islands and it allows us to pick up on some fabulous wines that it is often difficult to include in mainstream events.

A wonderful and fascinating tasting is guaranteed as we take a look at deliciously volcanic wines from the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily; excellent Vermentino and Cannonau (Grenache) from Sardinia; some amazing dry Assyrtiko and VinSanto sweet wine from the much talked about Greek island of  Santorini, plus some great wine from Corsica to complete the tour of some the best known wine producing Mediterranean islands.

Wines will be supplied in 50ml glass bottles, providing a perfect tasting amount. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.

Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting to addresses within a radius of 5 miles around Teddington.

Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, runs Teddington Wine Society, which meets at on the final Friday of the month in the Bell Room at the Landmark Centre.  Tim is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.  Tim also runs the monthly Richmond Wine Society and hosts fine wine tastings and dinners in local restaurants.

Fine Wine Tasting of Top Dessert Wines @ By Zoom

Fine Wine Tasting of Top Dessert Wines @ By Zoom | Twickenham | United Kingdom

Get ready for a festival of sweetness! But the glorious acidity of the best sweet wines will mean this is an exploration of flavour not sugar, with complex and varied wines from the old and new worlds.

I supply the wines in 50ml glass bottles – enough to hold the tasting amount for each wine that I pour you every month with metronomic precision. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.

Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting.  Because of the high value of the wines we are tasting I will need to limit numbers, and may need to make a small charge for postage to addresses it is not practical to deliver to.

I will provide recipe and cheese pairing recommendations, and suggest some suitable desserts from quality supermarkets that would complement the wines well.  Blue cheese, pâté, tarte tatin, and of course chocolate mousse may all feature.

Fine wine tasting dinners are hosted by Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies.  He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.

“Throughout the 17 years I have attended Tim’s wine tasting events, he has continued to deliver his extensive knowledge of wine and wine-making with great charm, and lots of humour, making the evenings not only informative, but also great fun. In the course of an average year, the tastings cover a kaleidoscope of different wine themes – interesting and entertaining for all, novices and experts alike. And the wines taste pretty good too!”
"We have been going to Teddington Wine Society events for a number of years. Tim runs the evenings with bonhomie and humour and wears his considerable knowledge lightly. The evenings are great fun, the wines are always a little bit different and help to expand knowledge and tasting horizons.”
“I have attended the Richmond Wine society for over ten years and always enjoyed Tim’s self-effacing style and gentle humour. His knowledge is globally eclectic and presented in a clear, interesting and always stimulating way. Every guest I have taken there has enjoyed the evening immensely. Tim also offers a wide range of wines to buy and my red cellar has provided great pleasure to my own dinner guests.”
"I’ve been enjoying Tim’s tastings for over 20 years - he is a great teacher, raconteur and wine expert. He is seriously passionate about his wine, but there is nothing serious about his tastings, which are always informal and relaxed. A lovely way to spend an evening and enjoy some fantastic wines."
