Fine Wine Tastings and Dinners

The fine wine tastings and dinners I run are an opportunity to try rarer and finer wines, accompanied by fine dining, whether at the Bacco Restaurant in Richmond, Le Salon Privé in St Margarets, or hosted by me at home. I often invite wine makers or suppliers to explain more about their wines.

In response to the UK Government’s advice on social distancing we are not currently running tastings.  We will keep the website updated and anyone who has signed up to receive updates about our tastings will be kept informed.

Some knowledge of wine is helpful to enjoy one of these tastings to the full, but the atmosphere is relaxed and the emphasis is on celebrating the enoyment of wine, food and conviviality.

Groups are kept to fewer than 20, and the value of wines tasted can reach £100’s.

About the host

Tim Syrad has over 25 years experience entertaining and informing people about wine, and is a member of the Association of Wine Educators. He also runs the Richmond, Teddington and Surbiton Wine Societies, occasional wine courses, corporate events and wine tours.  He is a fervent advocate that wine tasting should be fun, celebrating the enjoyment that wine brings, whether in discovering a new wine variety or region, or perceiving a new aroma or taste, or identifying a fascinating match between wine and food.

Fabulous foody wines from Alsace - Fine Wine Tasting @ By Zoom | Twickenham | United Kingdom

This will be a real treat, exploring dry and sweet whites, and the every improving reds from this gastronomic paradise. Definitely worth a visit to the local deli or cheesemongers (or both).

I supply the wines in 50ml glass bottles – enough to hold the tasting amount for each wine that I pour you every month with metronomic precision. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.

Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting.  Because of the high value of the wines we are tasting I will need to limit numbers, and may need to make a small charge for postage to addresses it is not practical to deliver to.

I will provide recipe and cheese pairing recommendations, and suggest some suitable fayre from quality supermarkets that would complement the wines well.

Fine wine tasting dinners are hosted by Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies.  He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.

Just when you’ve finished the last of the Easter Eggs – get ready for a festival of sweetness! But the glorious acidity of the best sweet wines will mean this is an exploration of flavour not sugar, with complex and varied wines from the old and new worlds.

How much longer can Burgundy hold on to its crown, when winemakers in the New World are producing wines of sublime concentration, complexity and elegance? We will make our assessment.

“Throughout the 17 years I have attended Tim’s wine tasting events, he has continued to deliver his extensive knowledge of wine and wine-making with great charm, and lots of humour, making the evenings not only informative, but also great fun. In the course of an average year, the tastings cover a kaleidoscope of different wine themes – interesting and entertaining for all, novices and experts alike. And the wines taste pretty good too!”
"We have been going to Teddington Wine Society events for a number of years. Tim runs the evenings with bonhomie and humour and wears his considerable knowledge lightly. The evenings are great fun, the wines are always a little bit different and help to expand knowledge and tasting horizons.”
“I have attended the Richmond Wine society for over ten years and always enjoyed Tim’s self-effacing style and gentle humour. His knowledge is globally eclectic and presented in a clear, interesting and always stimulating way. Every guest I have taken there has enjoyed the evening immensely. Tim also offers a wide range of wines to buy and my red cellar has provided great pleasure to my own dinner guests.”
"I’ve been enjoying Tim’s tastings for over 20 years - he is a great teacher, raconteur and wine expert. He is seriously passionate about his wine, but there is nothing serious about his tastings, which are always informal and relaxed. A lovely way to spend an evening and enjoy some fantastic wines."
