Valpolicella Allegrini 2018
Allegrini is one of Italy’s foremost winemaking families. Six generations have made wine from the 120 hectares of vines on their beautiful estate in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico area.
This delicious vibrant wine (a blend of 70% Corvina and 30% Rondinella) has red fruits, dark bitter cherries and spice on the nose and palate, but is fresh and easy drinking. You might try chilling it slightly.
In our recent Northern Italian wine video tasting I demonstrated the difference between different types of Valpolicella, comparing it with its stable mates the Corte Giara Ripasso, and the Corte Giara Amarone. I recommended a food match with Melanzane alla Parmigiana, and one of my favourite cheeses – Puzzone di Moena (a washed rind cheese from Trentino Alto Adige).
