Côtes du Rhone ‘Seguret’ Tradition Domaine Mourchon 2021
£17.00
A dash of Carignan (10%) complements Grenache and Syrah in this super wine. It is deep red in colour with raspberry and blackberry fruits and lovely spice – very soft and approachable. Try it with something tomatoey, or maybe a goulash. Cheese wise try a mild goat’s cheese like Premier de Moulis from the Teddington Cheese, or a Comte.
We visited Domaine de Morchon during our tours of the Rhone Valley in 2013. The McKinlay family established the Domaine in 1998 when they bought twenty hectares of mature vines and set about creating a winery and a retirement project! Perched on hillside with stunning views of villages with famous names such as Gigondas, it was a fabulous visit. Son in law Hugh Levingston took us up into the vineyards, and entertained us with stories of the estate, including the full time effort required to establish an English owned vineyard in deepest France. The family put on a superb buffet lunch in their stunning garden.
