During the 1950s, the De Marchi family bought two adjoining estates, ‘Isole’ and ‘Olena’, replanted on the poor soils on hillside sites that had been abandoned, and expanded the cellars. Today, the estate is run by Paolo De Marchi and his wife Marta.
A year in oak, mainly large casks, has softened the tannins and the wine is drinking beautifully. Crimson in colour with typical sour cherry and bramble notes on the nose, a smooth palate with rich fruit and some minerality – crying out for a steak, rare roast or something with aubergines, and a nibble of Pecorino to finish the bottle.
