Teddington Wine Society

Teddington Wine Society runs regular wine tastings covering a diverse range of wines in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

We meet at the Landmark Arts Centre, in the Bell Room, and the price of the tasting includes a buffet meal with wine.  We meet on a series of Fridays throughout the year. We have a membership of over 100, and every month over 30 people attend.

The format of the evening is designed to be friendly and informal, but informative as well. Absolutely no knowledge of wine is required and whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster there is plenty to learn and enjoy – most of the wines we taste retail at £10-£50, and some months we sample something very rare and expensive.  Read the blog to find out about our latest tastings.

The host is Tim Syrad.  Tim has over 25 years experience entertaining and informing people about wine, and is a member of the Association of Wine Educators. He also runs the Richmond and St Margarets Wine Societies, as well as fine wine Masterclasseswine coursescorporate events and wine tours.  He is a fervent advocate that wine tasting should be fun, celebrating the enjoyment that wine brings, whether in discovering a new wine variety or region, or perceiving a new aroma or taste, or identifying a fascinating match between wine and food.

Teddington Wine Society explores Brazil and Uruguay @ Home

In April we head across the Atlantic Ocean  and for the very first time we focus solely on Brazil and Uruguay.

Brazil is the third most important producer in South America behind Argentina and Chile but the vast majority is consumed domestically.
Quality, however, has been on a steep upward curve since the 1990’s and export markets have started to develop.  With a range of microclimates to choose from, Brazilian winemakers are finding success with Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot Noir as well as lesser known hybrid varieties.

Uruguay is the fourth biggest producer and already has a great reputation for Tannat. A substantial immigration from South West France in the 19th Century has developed a small but sophisticated wine producing culture with fresh whites and reds being the hallmark.
As ever, we will taste a bold selection of wines designed to showcase these two nations.

Be prepared for a surprisingly high level of quality.
