Richmond Wine Society

Since 2006 Richmond Wine Society has run monthly wine tastings covering a diverse range of wines in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

We meet at the Britannia Inn, in Brewer’s Lane, in their upstairs room, and the price of the tasting includes a two course meal with wine. Most months we run two events (the same lineup of wines at each), usually on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We have a membership of over 200, and every month over 50 people attend across the two nights.  Read the blog to find out more about our latest tastings.

The format of the evening is designed to be friendly and informal, but informative as well. Absolutely no knowledge of wine is required and whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster there is plenty to learn and enjoy – most of the wines we taste retail at £10-£50, and some months we sample something very rare and expensive.

The host is Tim Syrad.  Tim has over 25 years experience entertaining and informing people about wine, and is a member of the Association of Wine Educators. He also runs the St Margarets and Teddington Wine Societies, as well as fine wine Masterclasses, wine courses, corporate events and wine tours.  He is a fervent advocate that wine tasting should be fun, celebrating the enjoyment that wine brings, whether in discovering a new wine variety or region, or perceiving a new aroma or taste, or identifying a fascinating match between wine and food.

Richmond Wine Society – the wines of Gallo @ The Britannia Pub

Richmond Wine Society - the wines of Gallo @ The Britannia Pub
I am pleased to announce that Robbie Rugman, Gallo’s UK Fine Wine Ambassador, will be hosting a tasting of these wines for us.
We will be tasting their fine wines predominantly from California: floral balanced Pinot Gris from the cool regions of Russian River, deep perfumed Pinots from the MacMurray Ranch, heavier and very rewarding Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley and Sonoma County produced by the pioneer Louis M. Martini.  Plus, the opportunity to taste Chardonnay from Washington State. Washington’s wine region has flown under the radar with its neighbor Oregon taking center stage as the new exciting region. Washington has amazing potential with its 16 hour sunlight average summer days and low rainfall, no wonder it produces over 16 grape varietals from the region!
We look forward to seeing you there.

Richmond Wine Society annual Blind Wine Tasting challenge @ The Britannia Pub
Aug 6 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm
Richmond Wine Society annual Blind Wine Tasting challenge @ The Britannia Pub

Every year we dust off our tasting technique, and put our noses and palates through their paces on an eclectic selection of wines – the lucky winner will be crowned ‘Blind Wine Tasting Champion of 2018’. As regulars know, absolutely no knowledge is required to do well!

This event has become a stalwart of the calendar and serves to remind everyone that wine is about enjoyment first and foremost. A completely level playing field is created by tasting blind and with the subtle use of multiple choice questions, red herring commentary from Tim and a few easy to guess wines means anyone can be the winner!

We look forward to seeing you there.
