Valentino Sciotti (of Vesevo, Gran Sasso and other Farnese estates) took over this small co-operative in Basilicata in Acerenza in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture zone in 2008. Consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini works with the talented Danilo Gizzi to capture the character of the grapes, and area, in the finished wine.
The ‘Pipoli’ white is made from a blend of Greco and Fiano. It is yellow in colour with green reflections. There are intense tropical fruit notes with hints of white pulp fruit, underlined throughout by a good acidity that enhances the wine’s freshness.
This is delicious with grilled trout or a Caprese salad. It also pairs wonderfully with Asian cuisine. Mozzarella di Bufala is my cheese match of choice.
