Sauvignon Blanc Tinpot Hut 2023
£16.50
This is about as good as a ‘standard’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc gets. I often present it at tastings when we are getting to grips with aromas, flavours, acidity and mouthfeel. In that order: intense aromas of blackcurrant, gooseberry, passionfruit and melon – with some crushed thyme thrown in! On the palate, the same aromas present, with the tropical fruits taking precedence – the rich texture is balanced by the acidity on the palate. Or more simply – it is just yummy.
Try it with some grilled salmon, and a mild goat’s cheese like Tickelmore from Totnes.
Tinpot Hut wines are made primarily from fruit grown on winemaker Fiona Turner’s vineyard in Marlborough. The tinpot hut that gave its name to Fiona’s wines is an old sheep mustering hut in the remote hills between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys.
