Sauvignon Blanc Sattlerhof Südsteiermark 2020
£18.50
Südsteiermark is also known as Styria, in the south of Austria, across the border is Slovenia – the scenery is very reminiscent of that of the Gaube property which we visited on our Slovenia tours in 2017 and 2018. On Alpine foothills, with some influence from the Adriatic, the conditions are perfect for producing fresh aromatic wines, with super acidity, and Sauvignon Blanc is the most planted.
Bursting with apple and pear, and ripe apricots, this has lively acidity thanks to the cooling influence of the Alps. A different style of wine to the Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling wines that typify Austria, and one that I think will become better known in years to come.
Super with shellfish, or any kind of fish and of course my beloved Crottins du Chavignol, the cheese of Sancerre.
Willhelm and Maria Sattler own 35 hectares of organically farmed vineyards in the village of Gamlitz. The Sattler family have been making wine at their 300-year-old farm since 1887.
