Pinot Noir Applejack Vineyard, Giant Steps, Yarra Valley 2024
£54.00
From vines grown in the Upper Yarra Valley at higher altitudes of 300 metres above sea level, resulting in cooler growing conditions – ideal for Pinot Noir. A judicious investment in French oak results in a youthful palate with a refined feel with tight tannins and great length. Herbaceous, smoky cherry fruit and pronounced green bell pepper aromas – this is a superb wine.
This wine would be perfect with lamb chops, or an lighter roast dish – veggie or meat. It has the power and intensity to complement an Epoisses cheese – normally an accolade I only give to Pinot Noirs from Burgundy!
During our 2019 tour of Australia, we enjoyed a tasting of Giant Steps wines, and a picnic in the heart of their Sextons Vineyard – a gloriously picturesque finish to our tour as the sun shone brightly and we admired the magnificent views of the Yarra Valley – seems like a long time ago!
