Marsanne Viognier Gimblett Gravels Trinity Hill 2020
£25.00
We visited Trinity Hill during our 2014 tours to New Zealand, and met winemaker Warren Gibson, who has been with Trinity Hill since 1997 and is a pioneer of the famed Gimblett Gravels – free draining soils too interfertile to support economic sheep raising, that were rescued in the 1980s from a cement factory by some determined wine growers!
A delicious blend of 53% Marsanne, 47% Viognier displays that displays the lovely fruit of these Rhone varietals we drink all too rarely. Elderflower, dusty peach and apricot aromas and flavours and a creamy texture with hints of toast and bread dough. We tasted it at our March 2021 Teddington and Richmond Wine Society tasting of New Zealand wines, and agreed it was a super foody wine.
Its creaminess but nice acidity would make it a lovely wine for a Sunday roast chicken, or a risotto. Morbier is the cheese of choice.
