Chardonnay Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels 2022
£27.00
We visited Trinity Hill during our 2014 tours to New Zealand, and met winemaker Warren Gibson, who has been with Trinity Hill since 1997 and is a pioneer of the famed Gimblett Gravels – free draining soils too infertile to support economic sheep raising, that were rescued in the 1980s from a cement factory by some determined wine growers!
This wine displays aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, ripe grapefruit and stone fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with flavours of cashew, roasted almond and gun flint, with hints of elegant and well-integrated oak. There is a delicacy to this wine but also a richness and beautifully linear acidity.
Pair with a roast guinea fowl with a lemon and tarragon sauce. The cheese for me with this wine is Appleby’s Red Cheshire from the Teddington Cheese.
