Bourgogne Côte d’Or `Clos de la Chaise Dieu Monopole` Philippe le Hardi 2022
£31.00
We visited the historic Chateau Philippe le Hardi (then Château de Santenay) on our Burgundy tour in 2016, enjoying a tasting of seven wines and learning this was where, in the 14th Century, the incumbent Duke of Burgundy famously banned the ‘evil’ Gamay grape from his dominion!
This super burgundy has loads of ripe fruit with citrus and white peach notes, with a delicate backbone of vanilla from the 10 months some of it spent in oak barrels.
Lovely with roast chicken, pork dishes and an Epoisses (Burgundy’s best stinky cheese) or Soumaintrain would round off the experience nicely.
