This wine is a great example of a high quality Claret, from an estate on the border of Pauillac and Saint-Julien. It is a Cru Bourgeois, so not in the famed ‘Growth’ classification, but it consistently wins awards and costs a fraction of the price of its illustrious neighbours.
Deep ruby in colour, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with spice and hints of cedar wood coming through. It has lovely weight and elegant tannins, with a very long finish. Perfect with roast lamb, followed by a Tomme de Savoie cheese.
The blend is approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with a small fraction of Petit Verdot. It is aged in French barriques, 50% new, for 12 to 16 months. We visited the estate during our Bourdeaux tour in 2019, and enjoyed a great tasting.
