Heidi’s ‘Ried Kulm’ Blaufränkisch is a benchmark example of Burgenland’s signature variety. Ruby red in colour, with aromas of red forest berries and black pepper, a vibrant and lively palate, with fine-grained tannins and a long finish.
At the risk of accusations of cliché-ed food pairing, given this is the same variety as Kekfrankos, that of Hungarian Bull’s Blood of old, I suggest a good, spicy goulash would go really well with this wine – the pepper and fruit will combine really well with the sour cream and paprika. While a nutty Beaufort would be a nice cheese match.
