The Torre del Falasco wines are the standard bearers of this co-operative, situated in the Valpantena, northeast of Verona. Known as the ’valley of god’ to the ancient Greeks, this area is well-known for its high quality red wines.
Deep ruby in colour, this wine has aromas of ripe plums, spice and cocoa, which give way to a solid tannin structure that supports the concentrated, dried-cherry fruit character. It is long and silky on the finish, with a bitter cherry-chocolate twist characteristic of good Amarone.
Game meat and all slow-cooked dishes find their ideal contrast with this wine – braised beef, pulled pork, spare ribs, and barbecue glazed ham will all pair beautifully. Amarone is considered by some an excellent “meditation” wine, so its best companion may well be a relaxing atmosphere and the right frame of mind!
