2015 Cheese Course End-of-evening

Since 2015 I have run a Cheese Course at which we kick off the year by exploring the wonderful world of cheese and wine pairing.

My objective is to broaden people’s cheese horizons – tasting cheese that is in prime condition, and pairing them with the most appropriate wines.

I will provide wines to complement each cheese and we take a journey of discovery that encompasses a huge range of style and taste. Whites, reds, sparkling wines, sweeties and fortified will all feature and I can guarantee that you will taste an eclectically diverse set of cheeses. Cow, Goat and Ewe’s milk cheeses will all feature.

A Global Focus in 2018

This year we start in the famed regions of Burgundy and Piemonte, and then head further afield – via Spain to the new world!  Each tasting will allow us to explore how artisanal cheeses are complemented by the wines from their regions.

Burgundy needs no introduction for its wines. We will taste a great selection regional, village and 1er Cru wines with new cheeses such as Ami du Chambertin, Charolais, Abbaye de Citeaux with favourites such as Soumaintrain, Epoisses and the legendary Delice de Bourgogne. Two powerhouse regions of Italy are the focus of this session. Barolo, Soave, Valpolicella and Gavi to name but four will feature alongside some lesser known wines and cheeses such as Monte Veronese, Taleggio, Toma, Robiola and Fienotto. Fizz will feature. Spanish wines are great but the country’s cheeses are not quite so well known. We taste through an exquisite selection that include Rioja, Rueda, Ribera Catalonia, Navarra, Galicia and even a good Sherry paired new cheeses such as Tetilla, Peral Blue, Retorta and Pastura. Eclectic and diverse are the best words for this session. We will pair cheeses from all over the world with their ideal vinous partners. A first time for many to taste Rogue River Blue, Evalon, Limburger Bachensteiner, Pave Cobble, Farfars Parla and more. Expect the unexpected……
  • All tastings take place on Monday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm at 222 Stanley Road, Teddington, TW11 8UE.
  • A minimum of 8 cheeses and 8 wines will be sampled each night, wines ranging in price from £10-20/bottle.
  • Plenty of bread, crackers and biscuits, and a generous supply of quaffing wine.
  • Course notes provided.
Cost: £45/evening or £160 if you book all 4 sessions.

Saturday 24th February
Spain and the Rest of the World
The first Saturday session will focus on these famed French and Italian regions. The event will cover similar ground to the corresponding Mondays above but I will take the opportunity to compare and contrast similar styles of cheese from both countries where I think appropriate. Some pâté and salad will ensure we enjoy a good lunch.
(Vegetarian options also provided.)
The second Saturday session heads global via Spain and covers similar ground to the corresponding Mondays above. Comparisons and contrasts of similar styles will be made where appropriate. I will also add in a few salamis and chorizo as we are tasting over lunchtime!

  •  Saturday Sessions take place from 12 – 3.00pm at 222 Stanley Road, Teddington, TW11 8UE
  • Everything provided as per Monday course
Cost: £65.00 per Saturday.
As it is a three hour session, a minimum of 12 cheeses and 12 wines will be tasted.
