Valpolicella Torre del Falasco 2020
£11.50
This as a really good ‘basic’ Valpolicella. Cantine Valpantena is one of Italy’s top co-ops, and flying winemaker Matt Thomson spends a lot of time here. His influence is clear in the quality of this wine – zingy red fruit with a bit of spice, beautiful concentration and depth. As with most Valpolicella this wine is a blend of Corvina and Rondinella (75%/25%). It hasn’t seen oak, fermented and matured in stainless steel, made to drink young.
In our recent Northern Italian wine video tasting I compared it with Allegrini’s basic Valpolicella, which costs a bit more, and recommended a food match with Melanzane alla Parmigiana, and one of my favourite cheeses – Puzzone di Moena (a washed rind cheese from Trentino Alto Adige).
Also available in half bottle.
