Shiraz Shays Flat Domaine Tournon Victoria 2013
Michel Chapoutier established Tournon in 2007 shortly after purchasing 50 hectares of property in the heart of the Victorian Pyrenees and Heathcote. He recognized that the cool weather patterns and remarkable diversity of soil and exposures in this region would allow him to make distinctive wines from the Syrah/Shiraz grape of his homeland utilizing his biodynamic winegrowing philosophy.
The wine is produced from 100% Victorian Pyrenees Shiraz. Different from a Rhône yet retaining the spiciness one associates with the grape.. Fermented in concrete vats and stainless steel, and partially matured in French oak barrels for 12 months, the Tournon Shays Flat captivates with its aromas of ripe black fruit (cherry, blackberry) and its rich liqueur notes, spicy (pepper) nuances and tobacco hints. On the palate it’s rich and juicy, with some delicate, smooth tannins and earthy, spicy fruit accompanied by subtle touches of black liquorice and a delightful acidity which lovers of the Rhône Valley Syrah will surely appreciate.
Delicious with roasts and casseroles, and perfect with a hard cheese such as Comté.
