Sauvignon Blanc South Island 2019
£9.50
I love this wine because it is stunningly good value – because rather than spend money (and squander carbon) on shipping it in bottles, it comes over to Europe in a huge plastic sac in a container, and is bottled in Manchester. The end result is as good as if it had been bottled at home – the grapes are from the Marlborough region of New Zealand.
It is extremely gluggable, clean, fresh crisp fruit – citrus, passionfruit, even some gooseberry. I demonstrated my tasting technique with it to kick off the New Zealand online tasting, and it always goes down a storm at the wine events I run.
Sauvignon Blanc is a good match for asparagus and I offer a recipe suggestion in the link above, and a mild goat’s cheese would also be a good bet. I particularly like Rachel, a gentle, semi hard Somerset Goats Cheese from the Teddington Cheese.
