Shiraz/Viognier Rose ‘Rosebud’ Gabrielskloof 2019

Wonderfuly aromatic, thanks to being over 40% Viognier, the Rosebud balances floral notes with fruity aromas of papaya, strawberry and watermelon.  The palate is wonderfully fresh and light with bright red fruits and refreshing acidity.

This would wash down a platter of smoked salmon beautifully, and would be delicious with some creamy Wigmore cheese.

We had a fabulous visit, tasting and lunch at Gabrielskloof during my 2017 wine tours to South Africa. Peter-Allan Finlayson, the winemaker led us through the tasting.  We enjoyed more stories of wine families coming together, and of the evolution of winemaking on the estate.  Botrivier is a very new wine region, between Elgin and Walker Bay, much more arid than Elgin, with a somewhat cooler climate.  Our day ended with an olive oil tasting!
