Ribera del Duero Gran Reserva Valduero 2010
Valduero is one of my top favourite estates, renowned for their legendary hospitality, amazing cellar dug into the hillside and an astonishing modern art museum based wooden barrel creations from up and coming artists.
The Gran Reserva is a flagship wine produced from 50 year old wines and over 800m altitude. Low yields give the wine stunning intensity with concentrated, spicy ripe fruit and vanilla aromas and a complex full bodied mouthful of rich, creamily intense fruit.
An amazingly long finish completes the wine. 2010 was an excellent vintage and the wine will age gracefully for a good many years. I would eat this with a fillet steak. A mature Comte would be sublime.
We have visited Valduero on tour on many occasions – I have taken tours to Ribera del Duero several times, and we keep coming back to this fantastic region, where the Tempranillo grape finds the perfect conditions to express its power and elegance.
