Valduero is one of my top favourite estates, renowned for their legendary hospitality, amazing cellar dug into the hillside and an astonishing modern art museum based wooden barrel creations from up and coming artists.
Their Crianza is a standard bearer of fine Ribera del Duero wine is all about. It has spent 15 months in a mix of French and American oak which delivers a rich powerful, spicy nose and an intense, savoury red berry palate.
The finish is long and full. The wine is delicious with some local Morcilla or roast lamb. Perfect with Manchego.
We have visited Valduero on tour on many occasions – I have taken tours to Ribera del Duero several times, and we keep coming back to this fantastic region, where the Tempranillo grape finds the perfect conditions to express its power and elegance.
