Château le Pey Bordeaux 2016
£16.50
This is a classic claret, unpretentious, drinking beautifully now and a perfect match for a Boeuf en Daube (or pretty much any roast), and a favourite cheese of mine, Red Cheshire.
Château Le Pey is in the Médoc, slightly to the north of Saint-Estèphe. Its clay/limestone soil confers rustic but attractive blackcurrant and capsicum notes, and 12 months in oak enables some hint of cedar wood.
One the Classic French wines included in our online tastings at the end of June.
