Côtes du Rhone Rose ‘Loubié’ Domaine de Mourchon 2016
A foody rose – perfect for summer lunches when the sun shines, and a spicy supper indoors. Strawberries, limes and spring flowers on the nose, the palate is zippy, with loads of fruit.
Great with Thai/Malaysian food, or barbecue, and I particularly like it with Morbier – a washed rind cheese with a line of ash separating the cheeses made from morning and evening milk, which has a faintly sweet flavour.
We visited Domaine de Morchon during our tours of the Rhone Valley in 2013. The McKinlay family established the Domaine in 1998 when they bought twenty hectares of mature vines and set about creating a winery and a retirement project! Perched on hillside with stunning views of villages with famous names such as Gigondas, it was a fabulous visit. Son in law Hugh Levingston took us up into the vineyards, and entertained us with stories of the estate, including the full time effort required to establish an English owned vineyard in deepest France. The family put on a superb buffet lunch in their stunning garden.
