Châteauneuf-du-Pape Quartz Le Clos Du Caillou 2019
Le Clos du Caillou, the French wine brand, was established in 1895 by Elie Dussaud. The wines created here have distinct flavours depending on the nature of the terroirs and soil types found in different vineyards.
Les Quartz is blood red in colour with bright purple reflections. On the nose there is strawberry jam and wild myrtle jelly aromas, paired with notes of liquorice and saffron. The palate reveals black cherry, red fruits and wild juniper berries, with smooth and silky tannins.
Food-wise, this matches gloriously with big, bold flavours such as: duck breasts and Mushrooms Tagliatelle, roast beef with foie gras and morels or rib of beef with gratin dauphinois & thyme. Pungent cheeses like Epoisses pair well.
