Champagne Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Non Vintage
£42.50
Pretty much a third Chardonnay, a third Pinot Noir and a third Meunier, aged for three years before release, this is an elegant, fresh Champagne, with lovely florality on the nose, apples, pears and a hint of brioche on the palate, and a refreshing finish.
It’s a versatile wine but I have a fondness for it with garlic mushrooms, and as with most Champagnes, the cheese of choice is Petit Langres.
One the Classic French wines included in our online tastings at the end of June.
Joseph Perrier is a family run Champagne house, established in 1825, now run by the fifth generation. Its vineyards are in the Vallée de la Marne, and its cellars extend over three kilometres! The name ‘Cuvée Royale refers to the house’s supply to Queen Victoria and King Edward VII.
