Burgundy Mercurey Premier Cru Les Puillets 2022
£45.00
A lovely Burgundy, with a classic notes of violet, bright red cherry fruit and a hint of spice. Full and rich, the palate adds raspberry and blackcurrant fruit balanced by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins on the finish.
The classic Burgundian dish, coq au vin, is a dead cert with this wine, though to be honest it would complement most dishes. But only Epoisses will do for cheese!
In 2016 on our tour of Burgundy we visited Chateau Philippe le Hardi (then Chateau de Santenay), which has great historical importance with winemaking history going back to the 9th Century. We tasted seven wines culminating in a Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru and a cheeky aged Marc de Bourgogne (spirit distilled from grape skins)!
