To inspire our holiday dreams, we will explore some of the lovely wines grown on islands in the Mediterranean. We are holding an ‘in person’ event at St Mary’s Parish Hall on the night of Saturday 22nd May, and a Zoom tasting with the same wine samples delivered to people’s homes on Sunday 23rd May.
This is the first time we have focussed a tasting on Mediterranean islands and it allows us to pick up on some fabulous wines that it is often difficult to include in mainstream events.
A wonderful and fascinating tasting is guaranteed as we take a look at deliciously volcanic wines from the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily; excellent Vermentino and Cannonau (Grenache) from Sardinia; some amazing dry Assyrtiko and VinSanto sweet wine from the much talked about Greek island of Santorini, plus some great wine from Corsica to complete the tour of some the best known wine producing Mediterranean islands.
Wines will be supplied in 50ml glass bottles, providing a perfect tasting amount. The bottles have screwcaps so will be in perfect condition for the tasting.
Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting to addresses within a radius of 5 miles around Teddington.
Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, runs Teddington Wine Society, which meets at on the final Friday of the month in the Bell Room at the Landmark Centre. Tim is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy. Tim also runs the monthly Richmond Wine Society and hosts fine wine tastings and dinners in local restaurants.
