Our focus for June is the realm of lesser known white styles from Australia and New Zealand. Grape varieties from all over the world have travelled to the Antipodes and their expression can often be startlingly different to our usual expectation thanks to climatic and terroir differences.
Wine makers in Australia and New Zealand have considerable freedom to experiment – unencumbered by historical tradition and regulations.
We will taste a fabulous selection of wines that incorporates the purity of Semillon, some left field Sauvignon Blanc plus a host of other grape varieties such as Gruner Veltliner, Pinot Gris. Gewurztraminer, Roussanne and even an Assyrtiko from the legendary Jim Barry.
This will be the perfect Summer Tasting, conducted both ‘in person’ at Teddington and Richmond Wine Socieites and by Zoom.
Wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting to addresses within a radius of 5 miles around Teddington.
Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, runs Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies, which meet monthly. Tim is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.
