Is ABC OOD?
Chardonnay, the grape variety of white Burgundy, with its amazing versatility and, to be frank, ease of cultivation, became the go-to variety for planting throughout the new world. But its reputation became tarnished by a number of high alcohol, super-ripe, generously-oaked wines that for many were frankly “too much”, resulting in the ‘Anything But Chardonnay’ movement.
This event will show that this simplification is definitely ‘Out Of Date’.
Dedicated winemakers have been cultivating Chardonnay to restrain its natural exuberance, and using modern winemaking techniques that bring out its wonderful flavour palate. We will taste brilliantly made wines from around the world, that showcase the balance, complexity and finesse that this much maligned grape is capable of.
Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, runs Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies, which meet monthly. Tim is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.
