A truly extraordinary tasting of an iconic Australian estate – Henscke. Their Hill of Grace Shiraz is now reckoned to be Australia’s finest single vineyard Shiraz and I believe it has outperformed the legendary Penfolds Grange in recent years – earning a £500/bottle price point in the process.
The Henschke family have made wine in Eden Valley since 1868 and Stephen Henschke is the fifth generation proprietor, who alongside his viticulturalist wife Prue, have overseen a dramatic transformation of the estate.
We will taste eight wines with an average retail price over £100/bottle. Each wine will be supplied in a tasting quantity of 50ml.
Wines we are tasting:
Louis Semillon 2017 Eden Valley
Julius Riesling 2020 Eden Valley
Croft Chardonnay 2018 Adelaide Hills
Giles Pinot Noir 2018 Lenswood
Johanns GSM blend 2017 Barossa Valley
Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Mount Edelstone Shiraz 2015 Eden Valley
Hill of Grace 2015 Shiraz Eden Valley
The eight wines will be decanted and delivered on the morning or day before the tasting. Because of the high value of the wines we are tasting I will need to limit numbers, and may need to make a small charge for postage to addresses it is not practical to deliver to a specific address.
Fine wine tasting dinners are hosted by Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies. He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.
