Superb Range of Wines

Food Pairing and Cheese Matching suggestion for every Wine

Seeking some wine inspiriation?   I deliver to TW, KT, W and SW postcodes…

I am an independent wine merchant and educator based in South West London.

I run local Wine Societies in Richmond and Teddington.  We met monthly throughout 2022, and our programme of events for 2023 is displayed below.

My ever popular ‘Cheese Course’ will run again in the spring.  Do get in touch for more details.

I run private events and tastings for local groups; and I have a corporate events business called Taste of the Grape.

Every year I take groups of people to destinations all over the world on Wine Holidays.  My programme of tours for this year is virtually fully booked, but there are a few spaces available – see my tours website for more information.

Find out more about what I do.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like any advice about wine, suggestions for food and cheese pairing (I know the Teddington Cheese range intimately) or would like to find out more about anything I do.

To stay informed about what I do please sign up to receive updates.

I won the 2019 Wanderlust World Guide Awards Specialist Tour Guide of the Year.

Commended for my infectious passion, and being the perfect link between winemakers and travellers, I was given the award at the National Geographical Society.  The judges based their decision on the feedback from the dozens of clients who have been on tour with me.

Enjoy my tastings

I have an exciting programme of events for Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies events in 2023.

For some wine lovers these terms are a ‘code’ – indicating specialness – surely grapes untainted by human interference produce the best wines.
For others they are an excuse to charge a lot of money for wines that are no different (or possibly worse) than their conventional counterparts.
Our light-hearted exploration of what these winemaking approaches actually mean will include a blind tasting of a couple of wines to see if we really can spot the difference!  But most importantly we should come away with an understanding of why we might keep or change our views about these increasingly promoted wine categories.

Teddington Wine Society - Chardonnay @ St Mary's Parish Hall
Is ABC OOD?
Chardonnay, the grape variety of white Burgundy, with its amazing versatility and, to be frank, ease of cultivation, became the go-to variety for planting throughout the new world.  But its reputation became tarnished by a number of high alcohol, super-ripe, generously-oaked wines that for many were frankly “too much”, resulting in the ‘Anything But Chardonnay’ movement.
This event will show that this simplification is definitely ‘Out Of Date’.
Dedicated winemakers have been cultivating Chardonnay to restrain its natural exuberance, and using modern winemaking techniques that bring out its wonderful flavour palate.  We will taste brilliantly made wines from around the world, that showcase the balance, complexity and finesse that this much maligned grape is capable of.

“Throughout the 17 years I have attended Tim’s wine tasting events, he has continued to deliver his extensive knowledge of wine and wine-making with great charm, and lots of humour, making the evenings not only informative, but also great fun. In the course of an average year, the tastings cover a kaleidoscope of different wine themes – interesting and entertaining for all, novices and experts alike. And the wines taste pretty good too!”
"We have been going to Teddington Wine Society events for a number of years. Tim runs the evenings with bonhomie and humour and wears his considerable knowledge lightly. The evenings are great fun, the wines are always a little bit different and help to expand knowledge and tasting horizons.”
“I have attended the Richmond Wine society for over ten years and always enjoyed Tim’s self-effacing style and gentle humour. His knowledge is globally eclectic and presented in a clear, interesting and always stimulating way. Every guest I have taken there has enjoyed the evening immensely. Tim also offers a wide range of wines to buy and my red cellar has provided great pleasure to my own dinner guests.”
"I’ve been enjoying Tim’s tastings for over 20 years - he is a great teacher, raconteur and wine expert. He is seriously passionate about his wine, but there is nothing serious about his tastings, which are always informal and relaxed. A lovely way to spend an evening and enjoy some fantastic wines."
