Richmond Wine Society
Since 2006 Richmond Wine Society has run monthly wine tastings covering a diverse range of wines in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
We meet at the Britannia Inn, in Brewer’s Lane, in their upstairs room, and the price of the tasting includes a two course meal with wine. Most months we run two events (the same lineup of wines at each), usually on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We have a membership of over 200, and every month over 50 people attend across the two nights.
The format of the evening is designed to be friendly and informal, but informative as well. Absolutely no knowledge of wine is required and whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster there is plenty to learn and enjoy – most of the wines we taste retail at £10-£50, and some months we sample something very rare and expensive.
The host is Tim Syrad. Tim has 20 years experience in presenting wine, and is a member of the Association of Wine Educators. He travels all over the UK conducting wine events and is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery!
Our 2015 tastings included Tuscany, St Émilion, South Africa, the Loire Valley, English fizz and Chile. Every year we taste some of the best wines from the Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine Challenge competitions, and our Christmas tastings have a reputation for starting the festive season with a bang (or pop!).
In 2016 we start the year in Piedmont, home of Barolo, and will also be exploring wines from Spain, Portugal, Italy and Argentina.
