I’m Tim Syrad, and I have been educating and entertaining people about wine for over 20 years.
Together we discover new wine varieties and regions, new aromas and tastes, and fascinating matches between wine and food. I connect wine lovers with wine makers, introducing the people whose passion and dedication create great wine to the people who enjoy it.
I also sell wines that have been popular at my tastings and send out occasional offers.
My Next Events
The results of the major wine competitions are announced, and we will take the chance to investigate whether the medals and awards are deserved. The International Wine Challenge, the Decanter World Wine Awards, Sommelier Wine Awards, The Wine Merchants Top 100 wines – all judged by panels of experts tasting wines blind. Medals and Trophies are awarded for wines that express the best characteristics of their type – whether region, style or price point.
This is always a terrific tasting as we mainly focus on Gold and Trophy winners – reflecting the very best wines judged this year.
Southern Tuscany is home to some Italy’s best wines – with Brunello di Montalcino being perhaps one of the best known.
We will explore the joys of the Sangiovese grape at its best, and also venture into Super Tuscan territory, exploring a comprenhensive range of wines from a top class mix of producers – a highlight being the Sassicaia 1994 in magnum!
Accompanied, of course, by a four course Bacco dinner.
For our final tasting of the year, and anticipating the festive season, this November we will be exploring the world of Port and Fortified Wines. This type of wine is seriously undervalued when you analyse the low production volumes, long ageing and ultimately delicious taste. Alongside Port we will taste seriously good sherry, madeira and the odd fortified novelty. There will be some regular wine as well to ensure we are not overwhelmed in the the first half hour and a robust dinner will soak up the alcohol
St Margarets Wine Society offers informal, friendly and informative wine tastings accompanied by lovely food.
The tastings are hosted by Tim Syrad, who has 25 years experience of running wine tastings, and also runs the monthly Richmond and Teddington Wine Societies, as well as fine wine Masterclasses. He is a fervent advocate that wine is to be enjoyed without snobbery. Whether you are a complete novice or an experienced taster, there will be plenty to learn and enjoy.
